Pool Pump Not Working? Common Causes in Spring Homes
Why pool pumps fail in Spring, TX and how technicians diagnose capacitors, seals, motors, and impeller issues on the first visit.
When the pool pump stops, circulation ends and water quality declines within days. Here are the most common causes we see on service calls in Spring and Klein.
1. Failed Start Capacitor
The capacitor gives the motor the jolt it needs to start. When it fails, the pump hums but does not turn. This is one of the quickest and least expensive repairs.
2. Worn Shaft Seal
A leaking seal lets water reach the motor bearings. You may notice water dripping under the pump or a grinding noise. Replacing the seal early prevents motor failure.
3. Seized or Burned-Out Motor
Overheating, age, or running dry can kill the motor. Variable-speed pumps are more efficient but still need proper voltage and clean baskets.
4. Clogged Impeller or Basket
Leaves, toys, and debris can block flow. Always check the skimmer and pump baskets first—many “dead” pumps simply need cleaning.
5. Power or Timer Issues
Tripped breakers, bad timers, or loose wiring are surprisingly common. We always verify power before replacing parts.
What We Do on a Service Call
We diagnose systematically: power → capacitor → motor → seal → impeller → plumbing. Most repairs are completed the same day when parts are on the truck. You receive a clear written estimate before any work begins.
